Wikipedia: The Archdiocese of Barcelona is part of the Roman Catholic Church of Spain. On 25 March 1964 Pope Paul VI elevated the Diocese of Barcelona to the level of an Archdiocese. The Archdiocese has only had the status of a Metropolitan Archdiocese since the appointment of its present Archbishop.
