Wikipedia: Auckland City (informally Central Auckland) is the city and local authority covering the Auckland isthmus and most of the islands of the Hauraki Gulf, in the North Island of New Zealand. Auckland City is the most populous city in the country, with a population of 444,100 (June 2009 estimate). It lies in the Auckland Region, and the Auckland Regional Council is also based in Auckland City.
