Wikipedia: Sterlitamak is the second largest city in the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia, with a population of 264,362. It is located at 53°38′N 55°57′E / 53.633°N 55.95°E / 53.633; 55.95. Sterlitamak was founded in 1766 on the banks of the river Belaya as a port for the distribution of salt mined up the river.
