Wikipedia: Carl XVI Gustaf, has been King of Sweden since September 15, 1973, when his grandfather Gustaf VI Adolf died. He is the only son of the late Prince Gustaf Adolf, Duke of Västerbotten and Princess Sibylla of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. His father Prince Gustaf Adolf was killed in an airplane crash on the afternoon of 26 January 1947, at Copenhagen Airport, Denmark.
