Wikipedia: The Boston Police Department (BPD) has the primary responsibility for law enforcement and investigation within the city of Boston, Massachusetts. It is the 20th largest department in the United States and is the oldest department in the country, its formal creation having been initiated in 1838. The Boston Police Department is also the third largest law enforcement agency in New England behind the Massachusetts State Police (2,100 officers) and the Massachusetts Department of Correction (4,000 officers).
