Wikipedia: Bremen-Verden, but formally Duchy of Bremen and Principality of Verden were two territories (immediate fiefs) of the Holy Roman Empire, which emerged and gained Imperial immediacy in 1180. By their original constitution they were the prince-bishoprics of Bremen and Verden. In 1648 they were secularised, meaning they were transformed into heritable monarchies by constitution.
