Wikipedia: Kipchaks (also spelled as Kypchaks, Kipczaks, Qipchaqs, Qypchaqs, Kıpçaklar) (Turkic: Kypchak, Kıpçak) were a medieval Turkic people who, it is thought, originally formed part of the group of Kimäks in Siberia along the middle reaches of Irtysh or along the Ob. Around the middle of the 11th century, they split off from the bulk of the Kimaks and departed in the direction of Europe, where they formed a confederation with another tribe, the Cumans. Kipchaks were a confederation of pastoralists and warriors, possibly of Turkic origin, known in Russian and Ukrainian as Polovtsy (this name either applying to the Cumans only or both the Cumans and Kipchaks), who lived in yurts (felt tents) and came from the region of the River Irtysh.
