Wikipedia: Hussar refers to a number of types of light cavalry originating in 14th century Serbia, introduced to Poland and Hungary by exiled Serbian warriors and used throughout Europe and in Latin America since the 18th century. Some modern military units retain the title 'hussar' for reasons of tradition. During the 18th and 19th centuries hussars were raised by a number of European armies as light horse.
