Wikipedia: Serbs of Croatia, sometimes called the Frontiersmen (Krajishniks, Grenzer), or Krajina Serbs, are the largest single national minority in the Republic of Croatia. A large number of ethnic Serbs migrated to the north and west in 1538 when Kaiser Ferdinand I, ruler of the Habsburg Monarchy offered sanctuary and permanent settlement to displaced Serbs fleeing from the Turks, placing them under Austrian military administration. The newly established military region was called Militärgrenze or Vojna Krajina.
